real world plans: a rainy Thursday

Taking a look at my previous post, it's pretty easy to tell that it was a pretty lazy Thursday. I woke up this morning, not feeling too hot which put me in a bit of our sour mood. All I wanted to do was lay in bed and eat saltwater taffy (Who knew it was so delicious? We certainly had no idea!) While that's what I wanted to do, I decided it might be better to venture to Walmart and pick up some medicine. So off we went. Back at home with medicine I finally started feeling a bit better and realized that it was almost 1 and I hadn't done anything substantial all day. Thus began my yarn tree. Typing that, I realize I need to come up with a better name, because honestly that sounds so silly and stupid. I'll work on that more later though.

To be clear, I am not talking about yarn bombing a tree either. While I am capable of crocheting and knitting a bit, I believe there are other things more important to do with my time. I am talking about something like this:

Now this girl's yarn tree is far more advanced than mine. I wasn't working with as much space and instead of thumbtacks, I opted for quilting pins. If you do this, don't use quilting pins, sure they're cute and colorful, but they are also a pain to try and push into the wall. I mean literally a pain, my thumb is still sore.

Anyways here is what mine ended up looking like:

Well that's what it did look like, until I saw it in the picture and decided it didn't have enough oomph for my taste. Which is why I then reworked it. So here is the final project... for now that is.

I added some darker yarn to make it stand out more and I added just a few decorations, because it was looking a little lonely. I'm not sure if you remember, but last week I picked up a small stained glass cardinal. I felt it would be perfect to hang from one of the branches. This then meant that the bedroom needed a bit of a picture rearranging, which ultimately ended with my new cardinal print being placed over the couch as well. The heart garland is one of my favorite projects I've ever done. So much so that I have about 5 garlands hidden away in storage for a larger space. The only problem is, I have a hard time figuring out how to hang them. I've tried just taping the ends up, but they always manage to just slide down, which then turns them into the perfect kitten toy. Tying them around the quilting pins seems to work for now, but only time will tell.
